What Is Guru Bhakti?
Swayambhu Adi Parabrahma Jaimahavibhoshri Varu’s Bhakti Tattva was explained in the Thursday Satsang held at Aumaujayaa Adisahasra Parisamsthan, Shantivilla Colony, Vampuguda, on 2nd October. Some important aspects of that Satsang follow.
Devotion Beyond All Boundaries
Guru bhakti means that if you live a lifestyle on this earth as a person worshiped by the Supreme, a person favored by the Supreme, a person respected by the Supreme, a person accepted by the Supreme, then surely you will be liberated after death.
One should have devotion beyond money, beyond ego, beyond life, beyond time, beyond this world, and beyond human beings. You will reach the Guru only when you have devotion beyond anyone’s reach. Only when you reach the guru will you attain self-realization and attain salvation.
The Three Types of Devotion
There are 3 types of devotions in this universe:
- Devotion to God
- Jiva Bhakti
- Guru Bhakti
Bhakti that comes and goes, and bhakti that is constant in change, is called Ishwara bhakti. Bhakti without any change, which is always ignorance and ignorance, without any knowledge or consciousness, without growth or development, is called jiva bhakti. Bhakti which is constant and eternal without change is called Guru Bhakti.
Bhakti that indulges the body is called jiva bhakti. The devotion that entertains the mind is called Ishwara Bhakti. Bhakti that indulges the soul is called Guru bhakti.
Bhakti Iswaratattvam
Bhakti iswaratattvam. Karma is the philosophy of life. Meditation is gravity.
He who indulges in devotion is Ishvara. He who enjoys karma is a living being. He who indulges in meditation is a virtuous person. From the beginning to the end of the meditation, the supreme indulger is the Sadguru.
The Four Legs of Bhakti
Bhakti has 4 legs, viz:
- Honesty
- Credibility
- Truth
- Love
The moments you spend honestly with yourself will turn into devotion.
When Nothing Else Tastes Good
On the day when you taste nothing but the truth, the Guru will taste it. On the day when you taste nothing but dharma, Guru’s teachings will taste good. On the day when you taste nothing but justice, Guru Sannidhanam will taste. On the day when you taste nothing but righteousness, the journey with the Guru is delicious.
Guru Satsang is delicious on a day when you taste nothing but honesty. On a day when nothing else in the world tastes good to you, Guru’s love tastes good.
True Bhakti Is Conscious Knowledge
Where you are not wise and conscious, it is not Bhakti. That which gives you knowledge, lights up your consciousness, awakens the spirit of love in you, and lights you up as the Supreme Being, is called Bhakti.
Whoever takes Sadguru’s prasadam will not get results simply by taking it — whoever truly eats it gets it. So they should eat the prasad given to them. This same understanding of Guru bhakti carries through the teachings shared in Thursday Satsang 18-09-2014 and Thursday Satsang 09-10-2014.
